Voorheesville girls soccer team among the contenders in a crowded Class B field

Voorheesville

Head coach: Tim Kelley

Last year’s record: 12-4-2

Playoff result: lost to Mechanicville in Class B Sectional semifinals on penalty kicks

Returning starters: Kaelyn Lawson (forward), Jayden Kelley (midfielder), Rebecca Gregg (midfielder), Amanda Gillenwalters (forward), Renee Bogdany (midfielder), Leah Weber (goalkeeper), Julia Gleasman (sweeper), Megan Romansky (defense)

Graduated: Rebecca Clair (forward), Izzy Jobin-Davis (defense), Elliana Windsor (defense), Abby Parker (defense)

Outlook for season: The Blackbirds lost a first team (Clair) and a second team all-league player (Jobin-Davis) to graduation, but they have a player selected to the all-state team (Lawson), a Section 2 all-star (Jayden Kelley) and a first team Colonial Council player (Gregg) back to lead the offense.

“With eight returning starters, we should be good,” said Tim Kelley. “Schalmont and Holy Names will be favorites in the Colonial Council, and maybe newbie Mohonasen.”
