Colonial Council boys soccer: LaSalle upends Schalmont on the road; Catholic Central cruises past Cohoes

LaSalle began its Colonial Council season by pulling away for a 3-1 road victory at Schalmont Thursday, Aug. 30.

Colin Giombetti scored off an assist from Sam Haita less than 10 minutes into the first half to put the Cadets in front. Giombetti then fed Tyler Trahan for LaSalle’s second goal early in the second half. Trahan tallied again by intercepting a back pass to the Schalmont goalkeeper.

Ryan Edwards scored of a Luca Santabarbara assist with 17 minutes left in the game for Schalmont.

LaSalle goaltender Anthony Rotello made 11 saves, while Schalmont netminder Ryan Taylor stopped eight shots.

In another Colonial Council contest, Catholic Central downed Cohoes 5-1. Liam McDonald led the Crusaders with two goals and two assists, while Lucas Kania added a goal and two helpers. Devon Harrigan and Daniel Callaghan each added a goal.

Jarron Frangie tallied for Cohoes, and goalkeepers Paul Jewett and Jordan Prouly combined to stop eight shots.
