Defending Section 2 Class A football champion Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake cruised to a 64-7 victory over Gloversville in its season opener Friday, Aug. 31, in Gloversville.
Vincent Daviero opened the scoring for the Spartans (1-0) with a 16-yard touchdown run. DJ Lashley tacked on scoring runs of 17 and 22 yards in the first quarter, as well as a 39-yard touchdown catch from quarterback Darien LaPietro early in the second quarter that extended BH-BL’s lead to 29-0.
Daviero ran for 136 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Spartans’ offense, which amassed 445 yards against Gloversville (0-1). Lashley had 102 total yards and three scores, while Sam Gardy gained 72 yards on five carries and scored a touchdown.
Petey Raldiris had a 46-yard touchdown run for Gloversville.
In Class C action, Chatham scored 20 points in the third quarter on its way to a 35-0 victory over Watervliet, while Holy Trinity ran past Corinth 47-12.
Triston Schermerhorn’s 75-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to start the third quarter helped Chatham (1-0) pull away from Watervliet (0-1). Schermerhorn also had touchdown runs of 35 and 13 yards for the Panthers and finished with 106 rushing yards.
Watervliet’s offense was stuck in neutral all night. The Cannoneers amassed 192 total yards and turned the ball over three times, including an interception that Chatham’s Kaleb Taylor returned 55 yards for a touchdown.
Defending Class C champ Holy Trinity (1-0) scored six unanswered touchdowns to pull away from Corinth (0-1). Nacier Hundley had a touchdown reception, a scoring run and a fumble recovery for six points during the stretch, while Nelon Priest had a pair of touchdown runs and caught a scoring strike from Joe Tortello.
Hundley caught four passes for 83 yards and two touchdowns for Holy Trinity, to go along with his scoring run and his fumble recovery for a touchdown. Priest added a pair of interceptions to his three touchdown night.
Shawn Tedesco rushed for 122 yards and two touchdowns for Corinth.
