The Averill Park boys soccer team outlasted Guilderland 1-0 in a Suburban Council game Thursday, Sept. 6.
The lone goal came at the 17-minute mark. Logan Bielawski tracked down the ball in the corner and crossed the ball into the Guilderland penalty box. Sam Ghent headed the ball across the box to Tristan Shellhamer, who headed it past Dutchmen goalkeeper Ryan Knoll.
Guilderland held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks and had several chances to get on the scoreboard, but it couldn’t solve Averill Park netminder Eric Schuman, who recorded six saves to earn the shutout. Knoll stopped four shots for the Dutchmen.
Elsewhere in the Suburban Council, Christian Brothers Academy eased past Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake 7-2, and Shaker handled Troy 5-1.
Keegan Vedder scored four goals and added an assist for CBA, which led Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake 4-2 at halftime. Wyatt Leto and Dylan Bogdon also tallied for the Brothers, and Brady VanEpps added two assists.
Jacob Scott and Ethan VanVorst tallied in the first half for Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake.
Shaker scored three times in the first 15 minutes on its way to defeating Troy in Latham. Hassan Alfadhil notched the first two Blue Bison goals, and Nikhil Mehta finished the spurt off a feed from Stephen Guidi, who recorded two assists in the contest.
Ben Fitzgerald and Jack Acquario also tallied for Shaker off assists from Cater Ciavardoni and Zaheer Irani, respectively.
