Class C football: Two third quarter touchdowns are all Voorheesville needs to edge Taconic Hills

VOORHEESVILLE – The Voorheesville football team defeated Taconic Hills 13-0 in a Class C South Division game Saturday, Sept. 8.

All of the Blackbirds’ points came in the third quarter. Quarterback Ian Owens connected with Vinnie Patterson for a 55-yard touchdown pass, and Jimmy Gravino returned a Taconic Hills fumble 25 yards for the insurance touchdown.

Voorheesville’s defense did the rest. The Blackbirds limited the Titans to 147 total yards and forced an interception, to go along with the fumble recovery for six points.

Coming off his 285-yard rushing performance against Helderberg Valley the week before, Owens threw for 132 yards and ran for 32 more to lead Voorheesville. Jake Palmer added 40 yards on the ground on 14 carries, along with a pair of sacks on defense – one of which resulted in the fumble Gravino returned for a touchdown.

Devon Charron carried the ball six times for 42 yards to lead Taconic Hills’ offense.
