Suburban Council boys soccer: Colonie edges Averill Park in overtime; Shaker surges past Schenectady

Mantas Remancus’ overtime goal lifted Colonie to a 3-2 overtime victory over Averill Park in a Suburban Council boys soccer game Tuesday, Sept. 11.

Logan Bielawski converted a penalty kick to give Averill Park a 2-1 lead, but on the ensuing kick off, Remancus fired a long distance shot that eluded Averill Park goalkeeper Eric Jeschke to knot the score at 2-2. Remancus then kicked home a loose ball in the Averill Park penalty box to net the game winner.

Thomas Hacker tallied in the first half for Averill Park, and Nick DePaulo scored on a penalty kick for Colonie’s first goal midway through the second half.

In another Suburban Council game, Shaker struck for five goals in the second half to surge past Schenectady 6-0.

Addison Bunkoff and Ian Wu tallied early in the second half to help the Blue Bison put away the Patriots. Stephen Guidi, David Blau and Evan Austin added goals later in the second half.

Zaheer Irani scored off an assist by Nikhil Mehta in the first half to get Shaker on the board. Schenectady had several chances to tie the score, but could not get a shot to the back of the net.

Three goalkeepers combined to make 13 saves for the Patriots.
