ROTTERDAM – In a battle of Colonial Council boys soccer superpowers, it was Schalmont that prevailed.
Dom Scalice scored a pair of goals to lift the Sabres to a 4-1 victory over Ichabod Crane Wednesday, Sept. 12, at Schalmont High School. It was Ichabod Crane’s first league loss since Oct. 17, 2016.
Ryan Edwards scored the first Schalmont goal off a pass from Matt Horwedel midway through the first half. Hamza Noor tallied three minutes later off Edwards’ assist, and Scalice poked home the first of his two goals early in the second half to give the Sabres a 3-0 lead.
A Schalmont defensive mistake led to an own goal that got Ichabod Crane back into the match, but it was the only lapse the Sabres had. Schalmont’s defense limited Ichabod Crane to a total of four shots on goal.
Scalice tallied the Sabres’ final goal a short time after the own goal to wrap up Schalmont’s 4-1 victory,
Goalkeeper Spencer Bates had nine saves to keep Ichabod Crane in the contest, but the Riders’ offense was kept off the board by goalie Ryan Taylor, who registered three saves for Schalmont.
