Brady Van Epps’ third goal of the match gave Christian Brothers Academy a 3-2 victory over Saratoga Springs in a Suburban Council boys soccer game Thursday, Sept. 13.
Van Epps struck in the first minute to give the Brothers a 1-0 lead, but Evan Farr tallied 10 minutes later to tie the score at 1-1. The same pattern evolved near the end of the half, with Van Epps scoring to put CBA (5-1 league, 6-1 overall) in front and Aidan Rice notching the equalizer for Saratoga (3-3) a short time later.
Both teams had scoring chances in the second half, but it was Van Epps who converted a pass from Keegan Vedder in the 75th minute that gave CBA the lead for good.
Elsewhere in the Suburban Council, Shenendehowa posted a 2-0 victory over Shaker, and Averill Park edged Columbia 4-3 in overtime.
Ethan Brunell scored two goals in the second half to propel Shen (5-2) to its fifth consecutive victory. Shaker slipped to 4-2-1 in league play and 5-3-1 overall.
Tristan Shelhamer scored seven minutes into overtime to give Averill Park (2-2-2 league, 3-3-2 overall) a come-from-behind victory over Columbia (0-6). Thomas Hacker tied the score at 3-3 for the Warriors on a breakaway sparked by Logan Bielawski’s service behind the Columbia defense.
Bielawski also notched a pair of goals for Averill Park, which held a 17-3 advantage in shots over Columbia. Trey Gaylord, Nicholas Frost and Sam Kromer tallied for the Blue Devils.
