Wasaren League boys soccer: Waterford-Halfmoon defeats Hoosic Valley; Greenwich shuts down Hoosick Falls

Hunter Guertin had a foot in all three Waterford-Halfmoon goals in a 3-0 victory over Hoosic Valley Thursday, Sept. 13, in a Wasaren League boys soccer game.

Guertin sent a crossing pass into the penalty box to Tyler Galarneau, who knocked the ball into the goal to give the Fordians a 1-0 lead at the 18-minute mark. Guertin tallied in the 31st minute to double Waterford-Halfmoon’s lead, and then he sent a crossing pass to Jason Cordts midway through the second half for the Fordians’ final goal.

In another Wasaren League game, Greenwich eased past Hoosick Falls 9-0. The Witches broke the game open with a seven-goal outburst in the second half and out-shot the Panthers 23-3 for the game.

Charlie Gartner had a hat trick, and Rafaele Wyss contributed four assists for Greenwich. Liam Kelleher notched two goals and an assist, while Christian O’Brien tallied twice. AJ Rymph and Liam Niesz were Greenwich’s final goal scorers.

Goalkeepers Cody Hodges and Roman Vyvial had a combined total of 13 saves for Hoosick Falls.

Jake Cavert’s goal helped Mechanicville edge Tamarac 3-2. Jeff Luce also scored for the Red Raiders, who benefited from an own goal against Tamarac.

Max Ali had a goal and an assist, and Alex Bassey tallied for the Bengals. Tamarac netminder Tyler Nemjo stopped 25 shots.
