The Broadalbin-Perth boys cross country team finished first among Section 2 schools and took fifth place overall in the Varsity-Division II race at the Queensbury Invitational Saturday, Sept. 15.
The Patriots placed five runners in the top 50 to finish with 170 points, 11 points behind fourth-place Sayville. Maple Grove took the team title with 72 points.
Micah Smith led Broadalbin-Perth with a 20th-place finish in a time of 18:14. Wyatt Couperus placed 30th with a time of 18:40.29, followed by Preston Hadley in 41st place (19:02.50), Danny Dylong in 44th place (19:09.97) and Antonio Zevola in 45th place (19:12.13).
“Today was a great day for us,” said Broadalbin-Perth coach Jeff Richards. “The boys ran in a tight pack and are beginning to realize how good this team can be.”
Broadalbin-Perth’s girls team finished 10th in the Varsity-Division II race with 257 points, two points behind ninth-place New York Mills. Mount Greylock Regional from Massachusetts claimed the division title with 71 points.
“On the girls’ side, we showed much improvement from a week ago, but [we] still have much work to do,” said Richards.
Samantha Murphy led the Patriots with a 31st-place finish in a time of 22:42.64. Emma Frasier (43rd place, 23:32.98) and Gabby Larsen (47th place, 24:00.17) also finished in the top 50. Lauren Phillips (24:24.78) and Bianca Ropeter (28:11.03) rounded out Broadalbin-Perth’s top five.
