Lake George remained undefeated with a 4-2 victory over Salem Tuesday, Sept. 18, in an Adirondack League girls soccer game.
The Warriors – ranked No. 5 in this week’s New York State Sportswriters Association girls soccer poll – launched 48 shots on goal against the Generals, but had difficulty getting them past Salem goalkeeper Kathryn Sweenor, who made 21 saves. On the other side, Salem capitalized on two of its four shots.
Sarah Kohls gave Lake George a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute with an unassisted goal, but Finley Mayer tallied off a Mikayan Rushinski assist for Salem to tie the score at 1-1. A Rebecca Kohls goal in the final minute of the first half placed the Warriors in front 2-1.
Sarah Kohls struck early in the second half off a pass Stephanie Dickinson-Frevola to add to Lake George’s lead. Amber Terry scored on an individual effort with 10 minutes left in regulation to get Salem within a goal, but Gabby Marchello tallied one minute later to re-establish the Warriors’ two-goal cushion.
Lake George entered Tuesday’s contest off a 1-0 non-league victory at Schuylerville Monday, Sept. 17. Dickinson-Frevola had the lone goal of the game, and goalkeeper Samantha Jeckel stopped two shots to earn the shutout.
Elsewhere in the Adirondack League Tuesday, Whitehall blanked Hadley-Luzerne 7-0. Riley West scored twice for the Railroaders, and Chloe Rehm contributed a pair of assists. Zoe Eggleston, Jessica Moore, Madison Gould, Abby Baker and Kennedy O’Dell also tallied for Whitehall.
