ROTTERDAM – A big burst in the first half was all the Schalmont boys soccer team needed to win its sixth consecutive game.
The Sabres (6-1-0) scored three times in a 10-minute span to pull away for a 5-1 Colonial Council victory over Cohoes Tuesday, Sept. 18.
Ryan Edwards broke a 1-1 tie by scoring his seventh goal of the season with 22 minutes left in the opening half. Gabe Comenzo tallied off a scrum in front of the Cohoes goal seven minutes later, and Dylan Martin added another goal off a pass from Jared Smith to put Schalmont ahead 4-1.
Edwards added an insurance goal in the second half for the Sabres. He also assisted on Hamza Noor’s goal in the opening minute of the game, which gave Schalmont a quick 1-0 lead.
Jarron Frangie scored Cohoes’ goal, and goalkeeper Jordan Prouty had 13 saves against heavy Schalmont pressure.
