MAYFIELD – Rylie Smith’s penalty kick in the 53rd minute gave visiting Middleburgh a 2-1 victory over Mayfield in a Western Athletic Conference girls soccer game Wednesday, Sept. 19.
Smith put the Knights ahead 1-0 late in the first half off a corner kick that was not cleared successfully by the Mayfield defense. Kelsey Meca got the goal back for Mayfield early in the second half off a pass from Lindsey Hampton before Smith notched her second goal of the afternoon.
Middleburgh goalkeeper Ruby Acker made seven saves to earn the victory, while Mayfield netminder Kat Knecht stopped five shots.
