VOORHEESVILLE – Under “Friday Night Lights” at Voorheesville’s Homecoming, Schalmont fended off the Blackbirds 2-1 in a Colonial Council boys soccer game Sept. 21.

Ryan Edwards scored less than three minutes into the game to give the Sabres a quick 1-0 lead. Edwards struck again near the midway point of the second half off a feed from Matt Horwedel to put Schalmont ahead 2-0.

Jacob Dykstra sent Derek Moore ahead on a breakaway, and Moore finished with a goal to close the gap to 2-1, but Schalmont’s defense fended off several Voorheesville challenges in the final 20 minutes to secure the victory.

Schalmont goalkeeper Ryan Taylor made one save to earn the victory, while Voorheesville netminder Ryan Beardsley stopped six shots.
