Jesse Waddell scored two touchdowns in the first quarter to lead Helderberg Valley to a 34-13 victory at Watervliet Friday, Sept. 21, in a Section 2 Class C South Division football game.
Waddell had a 45-yard scoring run early in the opening quarter and finished another drive with a 10-yard touchdown for Helderberg Valley (3-1), which won its third consecutive game after an opening week loss to Voorheesville. Jake Stahl added a 66-yard touchdown reception late in the first quarter to put Helderberg Valley ahead 20-0.
Kendryek Flynn gave Watervliet (2-2) some momentum with a 10-yard touchdown run in the second quarter, but Kyle Waddell returned a Watervliet fumble 58 yards for six points to re-establish Helderberg Valley’s three-touchdown lead.
Kyle Waddell added an 11-yard touchdown reception in the fourth quarter for Helderberg Valley. Quarterback Alexander Monroe completed 16 of his 25 passes for 173 yards and two touchdowns, while the running game amassed 150 yards.
Helderberg Valley’s defense limited Watervliet to 183 yards.
Elsewhere in the Class C South Division, Chatham downed Taconic Hills 53-0. Thomas Van Tassel and Triston Schermerhorn each had a pair of touchdown runs in the first half for the Panthers, while Chatham’s defense limited Taconic Hills to 75 rushing yards.
Quinten Castner contributed a 25-yard touchdown reception and a 21-yard scoring run in the second half for Chatham.
