Suburban Council girls soccer: Ballston Spa upends Guilderland; Saratoga Springs and Averill Park play to a draw

Ballston Spa shut out Guilderland 2-0 Saturday, Sept. 22, in a Suburban Council girls soccer game.

Caitlin Wania and Sarah Siergenza struck for goals early in the first half to give the Scotties (4-3-1) the lead, and goalkeeper Shayla Andress made them stand by stopping six Guilderland shots.

Goalie Kiersten Becker had three saves for the Lady Dutch (5-3-2).

Elsewhere in the Suburban Council, Averill Park and Saratoga Springs played to a scoreless draw, while Niskayuna downed Troy 5-0.

Saratoga Springs (5-1-3) launched 26 shots on goal, but could not get anything past Averill Park goalie Megan Glanton, who was credited with 16 saves.

As Saratoga Springs and Averill Park were playing to a tie, Niskayuna (6-2-1) was dominating Troy. The Silver Warriors out-shot the Flying Horses 24-2, and only a standout performance in goal by Maddie Rifenberick (19 saves) kept Troy in range.

Olivia Piraino tallied twice and added an assist for Niskayuna. Olivia Maltbie, Gabby Alston and Mikayla Bechtel also tallied as the Silver Warriors pulled away with a four-goal second half.
