Hunter Guertin had a hat trick before halftime to lead Waterford-Halfmoon to a 4-0 victory over Catholic Central in a non-league boys soccer game Monday, Oct. 1, in Troy.
Guertin’s first goal came on a penalty kick midway through the first half. On his second goal, Guertin received a 30-yard pass from Tyler Galarneau and dribbled it around the Catholic Central goalkeeper before putting it into the open net. The Fordians received another penalty kick in the final minute of the half, and Guertin capitalized on it for a 3-0 lead.
Catholic Central started strong in the second half, but Waterford-Halfmoon weathered the pressure. Galarneau then tallied on a rebound in the 51st minute to extend the Fordians’ lead to 4-0.
Bobby Valigorsky made six saves in goal for Waterford-Halfmoon, while Noah Miller had nine saves for Catholic Central.
