TROY – Schalmont won its second consecutive overtime game by edging LaSalle 2-1 Wednesday, Oct. 3, in a Colonial Council boys soccer game.
Andrew Kessler finished a one-on-one breakaway against LaSalle goalkeeper Anthony Rotello with slightly more than two minutes remaining in the second 10-minute overtime period to give the Sabres the victory. The winning goal was set up by a long punt from Schalmont goalie Ryan Taylor to Ryan Edwards down the left sideline. Edwards then sent a through ball to Kessler, who beat Rotello to the ball.
Edwards scored less than two minutes into the game off a feed from Matt Horwedel to give Schalmont an early 1-0 advantage. However, LaSalle’s Colin Giombetti tallied a short time later to knot the score at 1-1. Neither side managed a goal over the next 90 minutes of game time.
Taylor made six saves for the Sabres, including one on a hard shot by a LaSalle player midway through the second overtime period. Rotello stopped five shots for the Cadets.
