Suburban Council boys soccer: Shaker and Bethlehem play to a tie; CBA extends unbeaten streak to eight games

Two of the top Suburban Council Blue Division boys soccer teams met in Latham Thursday, Oct. 4, with Bethlehem and Shaker playing to a 1-1 tie.

Will Augstell scored on a direct kick in the first half to give the Blue Bison (7-2-3 league, 8-3-3 overall) a 1-0 lead, but Gabe Kaprielian tallied with five minutes left in the second half to pull the Eagles (7-2-1, 9-2-1) even.

Goalkeeper Sam Lane made nine saves for Bethlehem, while Keegan Flaherty stopped six shots for Shaker.

Elsewhere in the Suburban Council, Christian Brothers Academy extended its unbeaten streak to eight games with a 3-1 victory over Guilderland, and Averill Park doubled up Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake 4-2.

Jack Mendrysa scored the eventual game winner on a penalty kick in the 54th minute for CBA (10-1-1, 11-1-1). An own goal against Guilderland (5-6-1, 6-7-1) in the 71st minute provided insurance for the Brothers.

Sumahri Stewart also tallied for CBA, while Logan Hoffman scored Guilderland’s goal.

Logan Bielawski recorded a natural hat trick in the second half for Averill Park (4-4-2, 5-5-2) in its victory over Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake (3-8-0, 4-9-0). Thomas Hacker struck in the first half to get the Warriors on the scoreboard.

Ethan VanVorst tallied both of Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake’s goals, and goalie Sam Speck made seven saves.
