Suburban Council boys soccer: Bethlehem fends off Averill Park

Derin Gumustop’s third goal of the afternoon proved to be the game winner as Bethlehem fended off Averill Park 4-3 Monday, Oct. 8, in a Suburban Council boys soccer game.

Gumustop scored unassisted at the 66:01 mark to break a 2-2 tie, and he added a goal off a pass from Aidan McCaffrey five-and-a-half minutes later to put the Eagles up 4-2. Logan Bielawski tallied with 3:36 left in regulation to pull Averill Park within a goal, but that was as close as the Warriors got.

Gabe Kaprielian contributed a goal, and McCaffrey added a pair of assists for Bethlehem. Bielawski led Averill Park with two goals and assisted on Tristan Shelhamer’s goal.

Bethlehem goalkeeper Sam Lane made three saves, and Averill Park netminder Eric Schuman stopped four shots.
