Two late goals helped Academy of the Holy Names escape Mohonasen with a 2-0 victory Tuesday, Oct. 9, in a Colonial Council girls soccer game.
The two teams were locked in a scoreless duel until Megan Marini curled a corner kick into the goal with 6:58 left in the second half. Bella Tronco then added an insurance goal with 1:02 remaining in regulation to seal Holy Names’ victory.
Mohonasen goalkeeper Megan Hart did her best to keep Holy Names off the scoreboard. Hart stopped 15 of the 17 shots on goal she faced. Holy Names netminder Kathleen Harris recorded five saves for the shutout.
Holy Names moved ahead of Schalmont in the New York State Sportswriters Association’s girls soccer poll this week, following its 2-1 victory over the previously top-ranked Sabres last week. Holy Names is ranked No. 3 in Class B, while Schalmont slips to No. 4.
