Section 2 Class B boys soccer playoffs: Schalmont, Ichabod Crane among first round winners

Quarterfinal match-ups are now set in Class B, as eight boys soccer teams advanced to the next round of the Section 2 playoffs Wednesday, Oct. 17.

Top-seeded Schalmont (14-1-2) shut out Colonial Council rival Cohoes 4-0 in Rotterdam. Dom Scalice tallied twice for the Sabres, who shook off a slow start to pull away with three second-half goals. Zach Metzold and Dylan Martin also scored goals.

Goalkeeper Jordan Prouty made 12 saves for No. 16 Cohoes (3-15-0).

Schalmont’s next opponent is another Colonial Council rival, as No. 8 Cobleskill-Richmondville (11-6-0) defeated No. 9 Hudson Falls 2-0. Jack Pryor scored in the first half and assisted on Greg Hotaling’s goal in the second half for the Bulldogs.

Goalie Justin Fenton stopped 13 shots for Hudson Falls (8-9-0).

On the opposite side of the bracket, No. 2 Ichabod Crane advanced with a 5-0 victory over No. 15 Glens Falls, while No. 10 Tamarac edged No. 7 Coxsackie-Athens 1-0 in overtime.

Ichabod Crane (14-3-0) struck for three goals in the final eight minutes of the first half to break the game open. Anthony Carlucci tallied two of his team-leading three goals in that time span, while Giovanni Gomez added the other. Gomez finished with a pair of goals and an assist. Glens Falls finished the season with a 4-12-0 record.

Dylan Briccetti scored off a pass from Max Ali late in the first overtime period to propel Tamarac (9-8-0) into a quarterfinal showdown with Ichabod Crane. Bengals’ goalie Tyler Nemjo stopped seven shots, while Aiden Boehm had seven saves in goal for Coxsackie-Athens (11-5-1).

In other Class B first round contests, No. 5 Greenville defeated No. 12 Broadalbin-Perth 3-2. Timothy Biernacki and James Mitchell each scored a goal for the Spartans (11-6-0), while Jared Eipp and Kyle Denman tallied for the Patriots (8-8-0). Greenville’s third goal came off a deflection on a second-half corner kick.

Greenville advances to play No. 4 Mechanicville after the Red Raiders (16-1-0) defeated No. 13 Catskill 3-1. The Cats finished their season with a record of 9-7-1.

No. 3 Schuylerville (13-4-0) defeated No. 14 Hudson 4-1. Jared Everleth tallied twice in the second half for the Black Horses, while Abid Ali scored a goal for the Blue Hawks (7-9-0). Mike Lanfear and Ian Winchell each notched a goal in the first half for Schuylerville.

The Black Horses host No. 6 Voorheesville (11-6-0) in the quarterfinals after the Blackbirds defeated No. 11 Taconic Hills 7-1. Joey Saia recorded a hat trick, and Derek Moore contributed four assists for Voorheesville. Taconic Hills concludes its season with an 8-8-1 record.

The Class B quarterfinals take place Friday, Oct. 19.
