Section 2 Class A boys soccer: Queensbury gets past stubborn Scotia-Glenville; Ballston Spa edges Averill Park

Top-seeded Queensbury (16-1-0) pulled out a 3-0 victory over No. 8 Scotia-Glenville in the Section 2 Class B boys soccer quarterfinals Friday, Oct. 19.

The Tartans (10-8-0) pressured Queensbury’s defense several times in the first half,  but could not get anything into the goal. The Spartans got on the scoreboard less than one minute before halftime when Aidan Jordi-Donnelly fed a through ball to Teddy Borgos, who promptly kicked it into the goal for a 1-0 lead.

Peter Crawford tallied off an assist from his brother, Drew Crawford, in the 67th minute, and Borgos struck for his second goal in the final three minutes to seal Queensbury’s victory.

Queensbury goalkeeper Ethan Willis made three saves for the shutout, while Scotia-Glenville’s Dominic Jack stopped 15 shots.

Elsewhere in the Class A quarterfinals, No. 6 Ballston Spa upended No. 3 Averill Park 3-2 on Ethan Cook’s penalty kick late in the second half. Cook finished with a pair of penalty kick goals for the Scotties, while Logan Bielawski had a goal and an assist for the Warriors.

No. 4 South Glens Falls defeated No. 5 Mohonasen 2-0, and No. 2 Albany Academy for Boys edged No. 7 Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake 1-0. Niko Moutopoulos scored in the second overtime period to lift Albany Academy into the semifinals.
