Five players had multi-goal games for No. 2 Schalmont in a 15-0 victory over No. 15 Corinth in the opening round of the Section 2 Class B girls soccer playoffs Thursday, Oct. 18.
Isabella Amoroso recorded a hat trick and two assists, while Sofia Cassano contributed two goals and two assists for the Sabres (15-1-1), ranked No. 4 among Class B teams in the New York State Sportswriters Association poll. Jules Monlea, Ashley Cirilla and Chloe Schaffer all tallied twice, and Isabella Almodovar added three assists.
Davia Rossi chipped in with a goal and two assists, Payton Graber had a goal and helped on another, and Alison Waldron and Gianna Viscusi both tallied for Schalmont, which out-shot Corinth 37-1.
No. 3 Voorheesville also advanced out of the opening round with a 5-0 victory over No. 14 Hudson Falls. Rebecca Gregg tallied twice for the Blackbirds (12-3-2), who led 4-0 at halftime. Morgan Keith and Amanda Gillenwalters each contributed a goal and an assist. Goalkeeper Abra LaFontaine stopped 13 shots for Hudson Falls.
In other Class B opening round games, No. 4 Mechanicville (11-3-1) escaped with a 1-0 victory over upset-minded Albany Academy for Girls. Jada Brown scored off a pass from Michalena DePasquale for the game’s lone goal in the second half. Goalie Andi Mullen had 12 saves for 13th-seeded Albany Academy for Girls.
Mechanicville will face No. 5 Catskill in the quarterfinals after the Cats defeated No. 12 Broadalbin-Perth 4-1. The game takes place Saturday, Oct. 20, in Mechanicville.
In the lone upset of the day, No. 10 Johnstown edged No. 7 Greenville 1-0. The Lady Bills visit Schalmont Saturday in the quarterfinals.
No. 6 Tamarac advanced into a quarterfinal match-up with Voorheesville after defeating No. 11 Cohoes 4-1. Isabella Bisceglia notched two goals and an assist for the Bengals, and goalie K.C. Champagne stopped 10 shots. Quincy Hytko tallied for Cohoes, and netminder Laura Levitus made 12 saves.
No. 8 Catholic Central (9-7-1) defeated No. 9 Schuylerville 3-0 to advance into Saturday’s quarterfinal against top-seeded Academy of the Holy Names. Claudia Fountain, Madison Clermont and Emily Drake scored the Crusaders’ goals, and goalie Maddie Finn made 12 saves to earn the shutout. Schuylerville goalie Claire Pelletier-Hoblock had 22 saves.
