COLONIE – No. 6 seed Ballston Spa will look for one more upset when it takes on top-seeded Queensbury in Saturday’s Section 2 Class A boys soccer final.
Ballston Spa advanced with a 1-0 semifinal victory over No. 2 Albany Academy Wednesday, Oct. 24, at Colonie Central High School, while Queensbury sailed past No. 4 South Glens Falls 3-0 in the other semifinal.
Ballston Spa and Albany Academy were locked in a scoreless duel until the 75th minute when Michael Robyck got past two Cadet defenders and struck a low liner into the goal for the game’s lone point. Albany Academy had an opportunity to tie the score in the final minute, but a dangerous ball in the Ballston Spa penalty box sailed past the goal before a Cadet could catch up to it.
Teddy Borgos had a goal and an assist for Queensbury in its semifinal win over Foothills Council rival South Glens Falls. Borgos tallied in the 12th minute off a feed from Drew Crawford. Then in the 38th minute, he sent a pass to Aidan Jordi-Donnelly, who knocked the ball into the goal for a 2-0 Spartans lead. Crawford added a goal late in the second half to seal Queensbury’s victory.
Queensbury and Ballston Spa play for the Sectional title Saturday, Oct. 27, at 4 p.m. at Colonie Central High School.
