Megan Marini’s OT goal lifts Holy Names past Schalmont in Class B girls soccer final

STILLWATER – Megan Marini bent a corner kick into the far left side of the Schalmont goal with less than one minute left in the second overtime period to give Academy of the Holy Names a 4-3 victory in the Section 2 Class B girls soccer final Friday, Oct. 26.

Marissa DeMartino headed in a Marini corner kick midway through the first overtime period to put top-seeded Holy Names ahead 3-2, but Teagan Olden tallied three minutes later to knot the score at 3-3 for No. 2 Schalmont.

The Sabres built a 2-0 halftime lead on goals by Vanessa Wainwright and Ashley Cirilla. However, Ava Panto struck twice in the second half – both times assisted by Bella Tronco – to pull Holy Names even and force overtime.

Goalkeeper Kathleen Harris made eight saves for Holy Names, which defeated Schalmont for the second time in three meetings this season. Schalmont netminder Eden Messemer had three saves.
