COLONIE – No. 7 Niskayuna outshot No. 2 Bethlehem 5-3 in penalty kicks to advance through the Section 2 Class AA boys soccer semifinals Friday, Oct. 26, at Colonie Central High School.
The Suburban Council rivals played to a scoreless draw through regulation and overtime, setting up the penalty kick round. Saidali Mesbahi scored first for Niskayuna, and then goalkeeper Jimmy Joyce stopped Derin Gumustop’s shot to give the Silver Warriors the advantage throughout the rest of PKs.
Joyce and Bethlehem goalie Sam Lane each had six saves during a hotly contested regulation and overtime.
Niskayuna meets top-seeded Christian Brothers Academy in Tuesday’s Class AA final at Colonie Central High School. The Brothers advanced with a 4-1 semifinal victory over No. 4 Shaker. Sumhari Stewart and Wyatt Leto scored in the first half to give CBA a 2-0 lead. Brady Van Epps tallied in the 59th minute, and Michael Puccioni added an insurance goal in the 74th minute.
Keegan Flaherty prevented the shutout by scoring on a direct kick in the 77th minute for Shaker.
