TROY – Schalmont overcame a 3-0 deficit with 24:20 left in regulation to edge Colonial Council rival Ichabod Crane 4-3 in overtime to win the Section 2 Class B boys soccer title Monday, Oct. 29, at LaSalle Institute.
Hamza Noor’s shot deflected off the crossbar and just over the goal line in the first 15-minute overtime period to propel the top-seeded Sabres to the Sectional title and a berth in Thursday’s regional against Section 10 champion Canton at Potsdam High School.
Gio Gomez recorded a hat trick for Ichabod Crane. Gomez scored his first goal 14 minutes into the first half and then struck twice in the second half to give the Riders a 3-0 advantage over a Schalmont team that defeated them twice during the regular season.
Devin Renard headed Zach Metzold’s shot into the goal to get Schalmont on the scoreboard. Ryan Edwards tallied less than 90 seconds later when he knocked in Gabe Comenzo’s pass to trim the deficit to 3-2. Then, Renard scored again with 1:19 left in regulation to tie the game at 3-3.
