Bethlehem, Stillwater and Fort Ann travel to Cortland for state girls soccer semis

Three Section 2 girls teams are heading to Cortland for this weekend’s New York State Public High School Athletic Association championships.

Bethlehem (Class AA), Stillwater (Class C) and Fort Ann (Class D) advanced through regionals to reach Saturday’s state semifinal rounds in their respective classes. The winners of Saturday’s semifinals play again Sunday for the championship.

Bethlehem enters Saturday’s semifinal showdown with Section 6 champion Clarence as the highest ranked NYSPHSAA school in the New York State Sportswriters Association rankings. The Lady Eagles moved up to No. 2 following their 2-0 victory over Section 3 champion Fayetteville-Manlius in the regional final Saturday, Nov. 3, and Section 1 champion Arlington’s 1-0 loss to Section 9 representative Monroe-Woodbury in a subregional contest. Catholic High School Athletic Association champion St. Anthony’s is ranked No. 1 in Class AA.

Senior midfielder Grace Hotaling leads a balanced Bethlehem attack with 24 goals and 10 assists, including her one-goal, one-assist performance against Fayetteville-Manlius in the regional final. Claire Hutton has 10 goals and nine assists for the season, while Piper Gregory has contributed nine goals, including a pair of multi-goal games.

Stillwater has been ranked No. 1 among Class C teams in New York for much of the season. Brooke Pickett (47 goals, 15 assists) and Teya Staie (27 goals, seven assists) form a formidable one-two punch for the undefeated Warriors, who meet Section 1 champion Haldane in their semifinal contest Saturday.

Fort Ann moved up to No. 2 in the Class D rankings following its 2-0 victory over Section 9 champion Eldred in the regional finals Nov. 3. Amanda Godfrey and Sarah Paige tallied for the Cardinals, who face Section 10 champion Parishville-Hopkinton in Saturday’s state semifinal round.
