Bethlehem, Fort Ann reach finals of NYSPHSAA girls soccer tournament

CORTLAND – Bethlehem and Fort Ann each fell short in their bids for a state title in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Girls Soccer Championships Nov. 10 and 11 in Cortland.

Bethlehem reached the Class AA finals before losing to Section 9 champion Monroe-Woodbury 1-0 Sunday at Tompkins-Cortland Community College. Kaelyn Salatto scored on a corner kick late in the second half to give Monroe-Woodbury the lead.

Bethlehem advanced to the championship contest with a 2-1 semifinal victory over Section 6 representative Clarence Saturday. Brianna Price tallied twice for the Lady Eagles, and goalkeeper Shannon Donnelly made six saves.

Fort Ann’s bid for a Class D championship ended with a 1-0 loss to Section 5’s Kendall Sunday. Hailee Mitchell notched the lone goal of the game in the second half for Kendall.

The Cardinals reached the state finals with a 2-1 semifinal victory over Section 10’s Parishville-Hopkinton Saturday. Amanda Godfrey and Sarah Paige scored Fort Ann’s goals.
