CORTLAND – Seven playoff games. Thirty-nine goals scored. One goal allowed.
That was the story of Stillwater’s run to the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Class C girls soccer title.
The Warriors capped a 22-0-1 campaign with a 5-0 victory over Section 3 champion Little Falls in the Class C finals Sunday, Nov. 11, at Cortland High School. Brooke Pickett recorded a hat trick, and Keelyn Peacock contributed a goal and three assists to lead Stillwater in the championship contest. Paige Brinsko also tallied for the Warriors.
Stillwater advanced to the title game with a 4-0 semifinal victory over Section 1’s Haldane Saturday, Nov. 10. Pickett and Teya Staie each notched a pair of goals for Stillwater, which out-shot Haldane 14-4. Goalkeeper Abigail Platt made 10 saves for Haldane.
Pickett’s five-goal performance in the state tournament gave the junior forward 52 goals for the 2018 season – tops among Section 2 players. Seventeen of Pickett’s 52 goals came during the playoffs.
