Scenes from Section 2 hockey: Capital District Jets host annual Thanksgiving Tournament

COLONIE – The Section 2 hockey season officially began this weekend with the annual Capital District Jets Thanksgiving Tournament Nov. 23 and 24 at the Albany County Hockey Facility.

Defending Section 2 Division 1 champion Bethlehem picked up where it left off by posting a pair of convincing wins to take the tournament title. The Eagles defeated Mamaroneck (Section 1) 6-1 Friday and posted a 12-0 victory over The Storm – a team comprised of players from Guilderland, Mohonasen, Scotia-Glenville, Voorheesville and Schalmont – Saturday.

The Storm picked up a 7-1 victory Friday against the newly-minted Capital District Jets – a combination of players from Shaker, Colonie, Averill Park, Columbia and Tamarac. The Jets then fell to Mamaroneck 9-1 Saturday to end the weekend with an 0-2 mark.

Bethlehem’s Michael Bievenue was named the tournament’s most valuable player after posting back-to-back hat tricks in the wins against Mamaroneck and The Storm. Michael Bievenue also contributed three assists in the two games to finish the weekend with nine points. William Bievenue added four goals during the Eagles’ two victories, and Connor Carroll chipped in with a goal and four assists.
