Wasaren League boys basketball: Tamarac pulls away from Waterford-Halfmoon

The Tamarac boys basketball team equaled its win total from last year by defeating Waterford-Halfmoon 78-58 Wednesday, Dec. 12, in a Wasaren League game.

The Bengals (3-0) went on a 20-4 run in the fourth quarter to pull away from the Fordians (2-3). Jacob DeFreest scored nine points during the spurt and finished with 17 points and 14 rebounds for Tamarac.

Frank Zotto also scored 17 points for the Bengals, while Dalton Maxon contributed 14 points and 11 rebounds. Bo Catherwood scored 12 points in the first half and finished with 16 points for the game.

Bobby Valigorsky led Waterford-Halfmoon with 19 points, and Michael Talavera added 15 points.

Elsewhere in the Wasaren League, Hoosick Falls hung on for a 56-52 victory over Mechanicville. Tristan Williams led all scorers with 20 points for Hoosick Falls (2-0), while Josh Germain paced Mechanicville (2-1) with 19 points.

John Walsh’s 19-point night propelled Greenwich (5-0) to a 45-41 victory over Stillwater. Matt Breslin had 15 points for Stillwater (1-2).

Saratoga Central Catholic (3-1) built a 38-15 halftime lead and cruised to a 63-40 victory over Berlin. Ryan McCarroll led three Saints in double digits with 15 points, while Kasey Billert netted 10 points for the Mountaineers (0-3). Jordan Catone contributed 12 points, and Joe Kumlander added 11 points for Saratoga Central Catholic.

Defense was the name of the game in Cambridge as visiting Hoosic Valley (2-1) defeated the Indians 37-17. The Panthers limited Cambridge to three points in the first half and kept the Indians (0-2) off balance the rest of the night.

Isaac Carlo scored 16 points for Hoosic Valley.
