Scenes from Amsterdam Holiday College Showcase

Girls basketball teams from five states and Quebec, Canada came to Amsterdam High School to play in the two-day Amsterdam Holiday College Showcase, which began Thursday, Dec. 27.

As the teams played, coaches from numerous Northeastern-based colleges watched to see which players they were interested in. The players, though, were more focused on helping their teams win.

“I think this is good competition for us. That’s what I’m focused on,” said Gloversville’s Harmony Philo, who has already committed to play collegiately at NCAA Division II school Queens College.

“I think if we all work together, good things will come,” added Bethlehem freshman Ava LaClair.

Six Section 2 teams are playing in the Amsterdam Holiday College Showcase – Bethlehem, Gloversville, Guilderland, Saratoga Springs, Shenendehowa and the host school, Amsterdam. There are also teams from as far away as New Hampshire, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and Quebec.
