Suburban Council boys basketball: Troy hangs on for four-point victory over Shenendehowa

Troy weathered a fourth-quarter rally by Shenendehowa to pull out a 60-56 victory Friday, Jan. 4, in a Suburban Council boys basketball game.

The Flying Horses carried a nine-point lead into the fourth quarter before the Plainsmen rallied to make it a one-possession game near the end of regulation.

Guards Latyce Faison and Nazaire Meritt had a field day from behind the three-point arc for Troy. Faison sank seven threes on his way to a 26-point night, while Meritt had five threes as part of a 24-point performance.

Jake Reinisch scored 14 points, and Andrew Martin contributed 12 points for Shen.

Elsewhere in the Suburban Council, Ballston Spa defeated Christian Brothers Academy 57-51 on the road. Keegan Zoller netted 19 points, and Luke Alteri chipped in with 11 points for the Scotties, who closed the game by outscoring the Brothers 15-9 in the fourth quarter.

Drew Signor had 18 points, and Jordan King contributed 14 points for CBA.

Albany rallied for a 41-40 victory at Niskayuna. The Falcons scored 18 points in the fourth quarter to pull off the come-from-behind victory.

Michael Benitez struck for 13 points, and Ty-rell Monroe chipped in with 11 points for Albany. Nick Benton registered 19 points for Niskayuna.

Colonie nearly saw a 15-point lead evaporate in the fourth quarter, but hung on for a 58-55 victory over Schenectady. Aaron Satin scored 14 points, and Brendan Coyle contributed 13 points for the Garnet Raiders.

Jahsean Haggerty poured in 15 points to lead Schenectady’s comeback. Kareem Sanders netted 12 points, and Jonon White added 11 points.

Averill Park jumped out to a 15-4 lead in the first quarter and cruised past Guilderland 50-28. Zach Price had 15 points, and Avery Pascucci added 13 points for the Warriors. Billy Lia scored 16 points for the Dutchmen.

A 23-2 run in the third quarter propelled Saratoga Springs to a 78-37 victory over Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake. Aidan Holmes netted 21 points, and Marcus Davis had 12 points for the Blue Streaks. Branson Otis led the Spartans with 10 points.

Columbia outscored Shaker 13-4 in the fourth quarter to register a 54-46 victory over the Blue Bison. Cooper Zwanka poured in 18 points, and Dylan Ouimette added 15 points for the Blue Devils. Trey Mariano paced Shaker with 16 points.
