The Shenendehowa boys basketball team moved over .500 overall with a 53-37 victory over Shaker Tuesday, Jan. 8, in a Suburban Council game.
The Plainsmen (5-3 league, 6-5 overall) built a 39-18 lead through the first three quarters, and they didn’t look back in handing the Blue Bison (0-8, 1-11) their 10th consecutive loss.
James Altenburger scored 12 points, while Devin Dzikas and Jake Reinisch each contributed nine points for Shen. Sean Seymour led Shaker with 13 points.
Elsewhere in the Suburban Council, Bethlehem (7-0, 11-0) remained undefeated with a 63-45 victory over Niskayuna. Jake LaClair netted 14 points, and Michael Ortale chipped in with 11 points for the Eagles, who outscored the Silver Warriors 17-7 in the fourth quarter to seal their victory.
Nick Benton scored 15 points, Sean St. Lucia had 13 points and Ethan St. Lucia added 12 points for Niskayuna.
Saratoga Springs (7-0, 10-0) kept pace with Bethlehem by defeating Christian Brothers Academy 63-53. Nate Chudy knocked down 17 points for the Blue Streaks, who overcame an 18-6 deficit at the end of the first quarter to pull off the 10-point win.
Jordan King led CBA with 15 points, and Drew Signor contributed 14 points.
Troy outscored Columbia 40-31 in the second half to earn a 73-64 victory. Nazaire Merritt paced the Flying Horses with 24 points, and Latyce Faison scored 17 points. Dylan Ouimette (26 points) and Cooper Zwanka (20 points) were responsible for more than half of Columbia’s offense.
Averill Park knocked off Schenectady 64-34 behind 16 points from Zach Price and 12 points from Avery Pascucci. Jahsean Haggray had 10 points for the Patriots.
Ballston Spa jumped out to a 43-15 halftime lead and cruised to a 75-54 victory over Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake. Keegan Zoller’s 20-point performance paced the Scotties, while Jack Wyatt netted 12 points for the Spartans.
Colonie went on a 19-7 run to open the game on its way to a 69-39 victory over Guilderland. Aaron Satin drained three shots from behind the three-point arc and finished with 17 points for the Garnet Raiders, while Josh Aybar contributed 16 points.
Ryan Teaney led Guilderland with 10 points.
