Colonial Council girls basketball: Payton Graber’s big night leads Schalmont past Voorheesville

Payton Graber could not be stopped, as she poured in 40 points to lead Schalmont to a 53-42 victory over Voorheesville Friday, Jan. 11, in a Colonial Council girls basketball game.

Graber made five three-pointers for the Sabres, who used a 22-5 run in the third quarter to take control. Graber also made 11 of her 13 free throws.

Lily Zanello sank four three-pointers on her way to a 15-point night, and Olivia Barringer contributed 14 points for Voorheesville.

In other Colonial Council action, Mohonasen edged Albany Academy for Girls 36-31 in a defensive battle. The Mighty Warriors outscored the Bears 11-3 in the second quarter to take a 20-14 halftime lead, and they held on throughout the second half.

Jordyn Caldwell had 13 points, and Kateri Vumbaco chipped in with 12 points for Mohonasen. Aaliyah Juste netted 12 points for Albany Academy for Girls.

Academy of the Holy Names fended off Cobleskill-Richmondville 43-25. Grace Field scored 12 points, while Saniyya Adams and Keira Cohen each added eight points for Holy Names. Lindsey Becker led Cobleskill-Richmondville with nine points.

Lansingburgh edged Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk 37-36 behind 17 points from Patience Riley. Samantha Baker paced RCS with 10 points.

Watervliet overcame a slow start to defeat Ichabod Crane 49-41. Madison Soroka went 6-for-6 from the foul line and finished with 11 points for the Cannoneers, who trailed 11-4 after the first quarter. Makayla Milligan contributed 10 points for Watervliet.

Riley Paul paced Ichabod Crane with 14 points.

Catholic Central shook off its own slow start to pull out a 36-33 victory over Cohoes. The Crusaders trailed 16-13 at halftime before taking the lead with a 14-point third quarter.

Riqiya Harris had 12 points, and Sarah Mattefield contributed 10 points for Catholic Central. Olivia Huneau poured in 20 points for Cohoes.
