Colonial Council boys basketball: Watervliet hangs on to defeat LaSalle

Watervliet fended off a fourth quarter rally to defeat LaSalle 69-60 Tuesday, Jan. 15, in a Colonial Council boys basketball game.

The Cannoneers went on a 22-10 run in the second quarter to take 34-26 halftime lead against the Cadets. Watervliet extended its advantage to 14 points in the third quarter before LaSalle made a late push to trim the deficit to under double digits.

J.J. Chestnut poured in 23 points, and Khari Croley contributed 20 points for Watervliet. Connor Cepiel netted 14 points, Andrew Vanroy chipped in with 13 points and Jimyh Evans added 12 points for LaSalle.

Elsewhere in the Colonial Council, Ichabod Crane tripped up Voorheesville 68-63 behind Christian Pesano’s 31-point performance. Pesano drained five three-pointers to help the Riders pull off the road win.

Noah Parker led Voorheesville with 20 points, and Jack Barringer scored 18 points.

Lansingburgh outscored Cohoes 50-31 in the second half to pull away for an 85-59 victory. Vinny Tario paced the Knights with 22 points, while Trevor Green (16 points) and Isaiah Knight (15 points) combined to contribute 31 points.

Ivan Brajac powered Cohoes with 25 points in the low post.

Shane O’Dell continued to dominate for Schalmont in the Sabres; 73-47 victory over Catholic Central. The junior forward poured in 36 points to register his ninth game of 30 or more points this season.

Mohonasen earned its seventh consecutive victory with a 69-32 win against Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk. Duncan Tallman made five three-pointers on his way to a 28-point night for the Mighty Warriors, while Nelson Ruoff paced RCS with 18 points.
