Adirondack League girls basketball: Warrensburg remains undefeated with victory over Hadley-Luzerne

Warrensburg remained the only undefeated Adirondack League girls basketball team with a 69-30 victory over Hadley-Luzerne Wednesday, Jan. 16.

The Eagles led the Burghers by one point after the first quarter, but Warrensburg (10-0 league, 14-0 overall) outscored Hadley-Luzerne 56-16 over the final three quarters to pull away.

Abigail Ranous poured in 23 points, and Megan Hughes contributed 20 points for Warrensburg, which entered the game ranked 10th in the New York State Sportswriters Association’s Class C poll. The Burghers are one of four Section 2 teams ranked in the top 10, with Hoosic Valley (No. 5), Cambridge (No. 6) and Maple Hill (No. 8) ahead of them.

In other Adirondack League action, Fort Edward – the state’s 14th-ranked Class D team – defeated Whitehall 29-16 in a defensive battle. The Flying Forts scored 13 points in the third quarter to open a six-point advantage and closed the game on a 9-2 run.

Gaby Thomas scored 15 points for Fort Edward (9-1, 9-5), while Kyrie Smith led Whitehall (4-6, 6-6) with 10 points.

Argyle built a 40-24 lead through three quarters and defeated Corinth 47-39. Shelby Caprood had 16 points, and Hailee Liddle added 12 points for the Scots. Alexa Abbatantuono scored 14 points for the Tomahawks.

A 15-3 run in the second quarter propelled Lake George to a 59-38 victory over North Warren. Graceann Bennett dominated in the low post with 29 points for the Warriors, and Nikki Hladik chipped in wit h16 points. Sydney Gagnon paced North Warren with 17 points.
