Shenendehowa won the girls game, while Saratoga Springs prevailed in the boys game at a Suburban Council varsity basketball doubleheader Wednesday, Jan. 30, at Shenendehowa.
Meghan Huerter’s three-pointer with 18 seconds left in the fourth quarter lifted Shen to a 58-56 victory over Saratoga in the girls game.
The Plainswomen used a balanced offensive attack to offset Saratoga’s power duo of Catherine Cairns and Kerry Flaherty, who combined to score 43 of the Blue Streaks’ 56 points. Cairns made four three-pointers on her way to a 29-point night for Saratoga, and Flaherty chipped in with 14 points.
Kaitlyn Watrobski netted 13 points, and Jillian Huerter contributed nine points for Shen. Five other players scored at least six points in the victory.
In the boys’ game, Shen appeared to take control when it built a 30-17 halftime lead, but Saratoga’s defense stymied the Plainsmen in the second half, which allowed the Blue Streaks to rally for the four-point victory.
Michael Rogan netted 15 points on five three-pointers, and Will Fox added eight points for Saratoga. T.J, Sangare led Shen with 15 points, and Lucas Seyoum contributed 11 points.
