Christian Brothers Academy scored three unanswered goals in the second period on its way to a 4-2 victory over the Capital District Jets in a Capital District High School Hockey League doubleheader Saturday, Feb. 9, at the Times Union Center in Albany.
David Clemenzi gave the Jets a 1-0 lead within the first two minutes of the first period, but Hunter Pemrick tallied with 2:31 left in the frame to knot the score at 1-1 for the Brothers. Pemrick, Ryan McMahon and Greg Beaulieu scored in the second period to put CBA ahead 4-1.
Goalie Mike West stopped 27 shots to earn the victory for the Brothers. Michael LaCouture had 43 saves for the Jets, and Tristan Shelhamer added a third period goal.
In the other half of the doubleheader, the GMSVS Storm rallied to tie Burnt Hills/Ballston Spa 3-3. The Storm got the equalizer in the third period, and neither team found the back of the net in overtime.
Evan Carey notched two goals, and goalie Allie Kelley made 29 saves for the Storm. Jared DiFiore, Miles Grabb and Oliver Mathison tallied for Burnt Hills/Ballston Spa, which got 30 saves from Kyle Grace in goal.
Elsewhere in the CDHSHL, Saratoga Springs held on for a 4-3 victory over Niskayuna/Schenectady/Albany at Weibel Avenue Rink. Joe Amodio, Gary Blanchard, Sam Jacob and Charlie Leary scored goals for the Blue Streaks, which raced out to a 3-1 lead in the first period. Goalie Brad Blake stopped 27 shots in the victory.
Theo Angelopoulos had a pair of goals, and goalie Tony Cotugno posted 47 saves for the Mohawks. Christopher Gallagher also tallied for Niskayuna/Schenectady/Albany.
LaSalle struck for three goals in the third period to knock off Albany Academy 5-2. Sebastian Geiger recorded a hat trick for LaSalle, and Paul Leo stopped 31 shots between the pipes.
Anthony Sericolo had one goal and assisted on the other for Albany Academy. Goalie Dan Guy posted 21 saves.
