The top four seeds advanced to the Section 2 Class D girls basketball playoffs with quarterfinal wins Tuesday, Feb. 19.
No. 1 seed Fort Edward survived a defensive battle against Adirondack League rival Whitehall to move on with a 38-27 victory. The Flying Forts built a 17-13 halftime lead before gradually pulling away from the eighth-seeded Railroaders.
Gabby Thomas made three shots from behind the three-point line on her way to an 18-point night for Fort Edward. Zoe Eggleston led Whitehall with 13 points.
Fort Edward faces No. 4 seed North Warren in one of the two Class D semifinal games scheduled for Monday, Feb. 25, at Ballston Spa High School. The Wildcats topped No. 5 Germantown 61-44 in their quarterfinal game in Fort Edward.
Four players reached double digits in the scoring column for North Warren, led by Jodi Bartlett’s 15 points. Kaitlin Kramar, Emma Phelps and Jaclyn Urtz all contributed 10 points. Riley Gibbons led Germantown with 13 points.
The other Class D semifinal Monday pits No. 2 Hartford against No. 3 Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons after both teams won their quarterfinal contests Tuesday. Hartford knocked off No. 7 Argyle 54-38, while ND-BG defeated No. 6 Heatly 39-31.
Karlee Nims scored 15 points, and Camille Rogers chipped in with 12 points for Hartford in its victory over Argyle. Paige Cormie and Erica Liddle each netted seven points for Argyle.
