No. 7 Hoosick Falls overcame an early 14-0 deficit to upset No. 2 Hoosic Valley 49-36 in the Section 2 Class C girls basketball quarterfinals Wednesday, Feb. 20, in Schaghticoke.
The Panthers outscored the Indians 36-15 in the second half to advance into Tuesday’s semifinal game against No. 3 Maple Hill, which ousted No. 6 Lake George 60-52 in another quarterfinal contest.
Logan Thayne netted 18 points, and Grace Wysocki contributed 14 points for Hoosick Falls against its Wasaren League rival. Renee Serafin led Hoosic Valley with 13 points.
Maple Hill’s defense limited Lake George to 21 points in the second half to end the Warriors’ 17-game winning streak and advance to the semifinals. Natasha Strock paced the Wildcats with 13 points, while Lydia Chittenden chipped in with 12 points and Jenna Hoffman added 11 points.
Graceann Bennett poured in 24 points for Lake George.
Tuesday’s other semifinal game pits No. 1 Cambridge against No. 4 Warrensburg. Cambridge handled Wasaren League rival Greenwich 69-50, while Warrensburg edged No. 5 Berne-Knox-Westerlo 57-56.
The Phillips twins continued to shine for Cambridge in its quarterfinal victory over No. 8 Greenwich. Lilly Phillips had 23 points, while Sophie Phillips netted 21 points for the defending Section 2 champions. Tess Merrill led Greenwich with 20 points.
Warrensburg had a five-point lead entering the fourth quarter and battled BKW back and forth over the final eight minutes before getting the one-point victory. Megan Hughes had 24 points for the Burghers, while Alexis Wright netted 23 points for the Bulldogs.
The Class C semifinals take place Tuesday, Feb. 26, at Colonie Central High School.
