Section 2 Class D boys basketball playoffs: Northville, New Lebanon among opening round winners

No. 7 Northville used a 14-2 run in the second quarter to break open a close game and pull away for a 53-34 victory over No. 10 Fort Edward in the opening round of the Section 2 Class D boys basketball playoffs Wednesday, Feb. 20.

Nate Reidell hit three shots from behind the three-point line on his way to a 20-point night for Northville, which advances to a quarterfinal match-up against No. 2 Germantown Saturday, Feb. 23, at Stillwater High School. T.J. Wadsworth contributed 16 points, and Jason Ellsworth added 10 points for the Falcons.

James Bombard had 11 points, and Cameron Sullivan chipped in with 10 points for Fort Edward.

In other Class D playoff games, No. 8 New Lebanon eased past No. 9 Loudonville Christian 62-43 to move on to a Saturday quarterfinal contest against No. 1 Oppenheim-Ephratah/St. Johnsville. Tyler Price scored 24 points, and Clayton Erickson added 22 points for the Tigers, who opened the game on a 21-5 run. Noah Rogers led Loudonville Christian with 17 points.

No. 6 Argyle outscored No. 11 Hawthorne Valley 17-11 in the fourth quarter to pull out a 59-52 victory. Peyton Lufkin poured in 29 points for the Scots, while Christopher Davis paced Hawthorne Valley with 30 points. Argyle meets No. 3 Fort Ann in Saturday’s quarterfinals,

No. 4 Hartford and No. 5 North Warren also advanced with first-round wins. Hartford defeated No. 13 Salem 80-47, while North Warren handled No. 12 Whitehall 64-49.
