Boys lacrosse: Shenendehowa eases past Colonie in league opener

A nine-goal second quarter propelled Shenendehowa to a 17-1 victory over Colonie in its Suburban Council season opener Tuesday, April 2.

Senior attackman Eric Makhatadze led the Plainsmen with a seven-goal effort. Four more players – sophomore midfielder Kyle Acker, junior midfielder Billy Beach, senior attackman Matt Newhall and junior midfielder Ryan Shanahan – contributed two goals apiece.

Shane Rossi had the lone goal for Colonie, and goaltender Justin Loudis stopped 13 shots.

Elsewhere in the Suburban Council, Christian Brothers Academy eased past Troy 20-8. The Brothers put the game out of the Flying Horses’ reach with an 11-goal second quarter.

Anthony Pizzola paced the Brothers with a six-goal, three-assist afternoon, and Ben Curro chipped in with five goals. Freddie Smith added a hat trick and six helpers.

Tyrone Jones had four goals and an assist for Troy, while goalies Prince Wadgas and Robert Sapp combined to stop 14 CBA shots.

Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake pulled away for a 16-9 victory over Saratoga Springs. Caeden LaPietro struck for five goals and three assists, and Ty McHerron contributed a four-goal performance for the Spartans, who led 9-6 at halftime. Goalie Chris Serafini made 17 saves.

Huck Patton and Charlie Beck each had hat tricks for Saratoga Springs, while goalies Eric Griskowitz and Ryan Flemming combined to make 13 saves.

In a non-league game, South Glens Falls cruised past Schenectady/Mohonasen 17-0 at Schenectady High School. Cavan Krug tallied five times for the Bulldogs, while Zack Lefave and Darrin Weller provided four goals and two assists apiece.

Goalies Ganesh Govindan and Ethan Fish had a combined total of 13 saves for Schenectady/Mohonasen.
