One run was all it took for Mechanicville to defeat Saratoga Central Catholic 1-0 in a Wasaren League baseball game Wednesday, April 3.
Jacob Popiel scored the game’s lone run in the bottom of the second inning to support starting pitcher Jacob LaFountain, who struck out eight batters in five innings of work for the Red Raiders. Nicholas Billert and Zachary White also got hits, and Devin Garland tossed two shutout innings in relief to earn the save.
Terrell Tillman allowed three hits and struck out five in six innings of work for Saratoga Central Catholic. Ross Garrow, Nick Winslow and Billy Murdick all had a pair of hits to lead the Saints’ offense.
Elsewhere in the Wasaren League, Hoosic Valley defeated Greenwich 5-3. The Witches scored three runs in the top of the top of the sixth inning to take a 3-2 lead, only to watch as the Indians responded with three runs in the bottom half of the sixth to pull out the victory.
Ethan Caiazza, Kessler Maldron and Justin Sawyer all doubled for Hoosic Valley in the victory.
