Niskayuna overcame a shaky start to defeat Averill Park 6-4 Wednesday, April 10, in a Suburban Council baseball game.
Averill Park scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 3-2 lead, but Niskayuna tied the game in the second inning and grabbed the lead with a run in the top of the third.
Pitchers Tim Schaffer and Sam Morra combined on a two-hitter for Niskayuna. Schaffer tossed five innings, allowed one earned run and struck out six to earn the win, while Morra picked up the two-inning save. Aaron Whitley led Niskayuna’s offense with a pair of hits.
Avery Pascucci had an RBI hit for Averill Park.
Elsewhere in the Suburban Council, Shenendehowa defeated Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake 8-2. Thomas Krill doubled twice, scored one run and drove in another for the Plainsmen, while Ben Lavery had three singles, two runs scored and an RBI. Brendan Disonell and Nick Lemire each added two singles, with Disonell driving in a pair of runs.
Kieran Rhodes and Alex Morse each had a hit for Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake.
Christian Brothers Academy broke open a close game with a five-run sixth inning to defeat Schenectady 9-3.
