Suburban Council boys lacrosse: Shaker silences Columbia

Shaker limited Columbia to eight shots on goal on its way to posting an 8-1 victory Thursday, April 11, in a Suburban Council boys lacrosse game.

Sean McLean and Zach Mein each notched a pair of goals for the Blue Bison, who took control of the game with a five-goal second quarter. Logan Souza contributed a goal and two assists, and goalie Ryan Mazzariello stopped seven shots.

Collin Dougherty made eight saves, and Benjamin Cook recorded his team’s lone goal for Columbia.

Elsewhere in the Suburban Council, Ballston Spa closed the game on a 5-1 run to pull away for a 15-8 victory over Guilderland. Jake Koszelak led a balanced attack for the Scotties with four goals and an assist. Ethan Thomas chipped in with a hat trick and three assists, and Peyton Walsh tallied three times.

Caleb Jacobson paced Guilderland with three goals, and Chris Ardito added two goals.

Six Niskayuna players had multi-goal games in a 24-1 victory over Troy. Drew Collins struck five times, and Finn McCullough notched four goals and two assists for the Silver Warriors.

Saratoga Springs jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first quarter on its way to a 16-2 victory over Albany. Spencer Flansburg and Will Bobear each had hat tricks for the Blue Streaks, who held a 29-16 advantage in shots on goal. Daniel Delany recorded both of the Falcons’ goals.

Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake tallied 10 times in the first quarter and defeated Colonie 20-2. Jackson Bach and J.D. Townsend each scored five goals for the Spartans. Jason Dongelewie and Tyler McGue scored goals for the Garnet Raiders.

Christian Brothers Academy handled Averill Park 22-3, as Freddie Smith paced the Brothers with a five-goal, four-assist afternoon. Hunter Pemrick and Anthony Pizzola each added four goals for CBA. Nick Gelder tallied twice, and goalie Austin Bradway turned away 10 shots for the Warriors.
