There was only one change to Class AA for the 2019 Section 2 football season. Albany elected to play in Class A, leaving Class AA with only nine teams playing in one division: Bethlehem, Christian Brothers Academy, Colonie, Guilderland, Niskayuna, Saratoga Springs, Schenectady, Shaker and Shenendehowa.

The lack of any additions to the Class AA field means that there will be only four teams qualifying for Sectionals for the second consecutive year. The move to one division was precipitated in 2018 when Troy, Ballston Spa, Columbia and LaSalle moved down to Class A following new BEDS numbers posted by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association.

Here is a look at the week-by-week schedule for Class AA.

Week 1
Shaker at Guilderland
Saratoga Springs at Niskayuna
Shenendehowa at Bethlehem
Schenectady at CBA
Colonie at Amsterdam (crossover)

Most interesting matchup: Shaker at Guilderland. The defending Section 2 champions face a tough road test against the high-scoring Dutchmen to start the season.

Week 2
Guilderland at Niskayuna
Colonie at CBA
Bethlehem at Saratoga Springs
Shaker at Shenendehowa
Green Tech at Guilderland (crossover)

Most interesting matchup: Shaker at Shenendehowa. This has become one of the top large school rivalries in Section 2. It also provides the Blue Bison with another tough road game.

Week 3
Saratoga Springs at Shaker
Niskayuna at Shenendehowa
Bethlehem at Guilderland
Schenectady at Colonie
CBA at Troy (crossover)

Most interesting matchup: Saratoga Springs at Shaker. The schedule makers decided to give Shaker all of its toughest opponents up front. If the Blue Bison get through the first three weeks unscathed, they could all but lock up the top seed for Sectionals.

Week 4
CBA at Bethlehem
Shenendehowa at Colonie
Niskayuna at Shaker
Guilderland at Schenectady
Queensbury at Saratoga Springs (crossover)

Most interesting matchup: Queensbury at Saratoga Springs. Queensbury’s double wing offense is tough for any opponent to stop. Saratoga gets its chance in this crossover contest.

Week 5
Saratoga Springs at CBA
Schenectady at Niskayuna
Shenendehowa at Guilderland
Colonie at Bethlehem
Shaker at Ballston Spa (crossover)

Most interesting matchup: Shenendehowa at Guilderland. The Dutchmen and the Plainsmen will be vying for playoff positioning when they meet below the Helderberg Escarpment.

Week 6
Niskayuna at Colonie
Guilderland at Saratoga Springs
Schenectady at Shaker
CBA at Shenendehowa
Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake at Bethlehem (crossover)

Most interesting matchup: Niskayuna at Colonie. Last year’s game was decided on a failed two-point conversion in overtime, so expect another close contest between the Silver Warriors and the Garnet Raiders.

Week 7
Bethlehem at Niskayuna
CBA at Shaker
Saratoga Springs at Schenectady
Colonie at Guilderland
Shenendehowa at Averill Park (crossover)

Most interesting matchup: CBA at Shaker. The Brothers will likely be seeking their first playoff berth in two years when they travel to Latham to face the Blue Bison.

Week 8
Guilderland at CBA
Shaker at Colonie
Shenendehowa at Saratoga Springs
Bethlehem at Schenectady
Niskayuna at Albany (crossover)

Most interesting matchups: Shaker at Colonie and Shenendehowa at Saratoga Springs. Traditional rivalries are always entertaining, and the schedule makers waited until Week 8 to give us two of them.
