NISKAYUNA – Niskayuna fended off a seventh-inning rally to defeat Troy 13-11 Friday, April 12 in a Suburban Council baseball game.
The Flying Horses scored nine runs in the top of the seventh to close a large deficit, but Robert Schneider recorded the final out of the game to earn the save. The Silver Warriors used four pitchers in the seventh inning after starter Robert Morra allowed two unearned runs and struck out seven in six innings of work.
Tim Schaffer had two hits and two RBI, and Jacob Hand added three hits to lead Niskayuna’s offense. The Silver Warriors tagged three Troy pitchers for 13 runs and 12 hits, and they took advantage of four errors.
Tom Harkin notched a pair of hits and an RBI for Troy, which also benefitted from several Niskayuna miscues during the course of the afternoon.
The victory improves Niskayuna’s Suburban Council record to 4-0 heading into Monday’s game at defending Section 2 Class AA champion Columbia.
